Boonton is a picturesque community that proudly traces its roots back to 1761, when it was first established and named after the British Colonial Governor Thomas Boone. Though small in size – with a population of just 8,347 according to 2010 US census figures – Boonton serves as an emblematic testament to true American tradition and heritage.

Boonton, New Jersey has a rich and storied history of development. The town was established in 1866 as part of Hanover Township and Pequannock Township before becoming fully independent the next year. This area initially came to prominence due to the construction of a Morris Canal by the New Jersey Iron Company that began around 1829. Unfortunately, this initial spot would ultimately be covered up when John L Leal decided in 1904 to build an impressive chlorination system designed by George W Fuller – creating America’s first municipal water supply along with it!

Booneton Falls witnessed a drastic change in its population during the early 19th century when the completion of a canal diverted business and traffic away from town. Over time, Old Boonton became submerged under Jersey City Reservoir due to it being dammed at 1903 -establishing an entirely new landscape for visitors to explore today.
